Brownies

1/2 c Shortening
2 (1-oz) squares chocolate -or- 6 tb -cocoa and 2 tb -butter
1 c Sugar
2 Eggs; beaten
1 ts Vanilla
3/4 c Flour
1/2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt

Melt shortening and chocolate over very low heat, stirring constantly. Cool. Beat eggs until light; stir in sugar, then chocolate mixture and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients, mixing well. Add nuts. Bake in greased 9x12 pan at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Makes about 2 dozen. These have consistency similar to cake.
