Old Time German Chocolate Cake 3 (9 inch) pans, prepared
1 bar Baker's chocolate
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 c. margarine
4 egg yolks and whites, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
Beat egg whites; set aside. Heat water; add chocolate. Stir until dissolved; set aside. Mix sugar and margarine; add remaining dry ingredients. Mix chocolate, water mixture with beaten egg yolks and buttermilk and vanilla. Mix wet and dry ingredients together until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into prepared pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Frosting: Combine 1 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup sugar, 3 slightly beaten egg yolks, 1/2 cup margarine, and 1 teaspoon vanilla in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick, about 12 minutes. Remove from heat. Add 1/2 to 1 cup coconut and 1 cup pecans (chopped). Mix well.
